Off To Disney World And Beyond

Oh my gosh, what an amazing week. Megs and Mike are going to head back home in a few hours, and the whole thing has been a blast.

Stu and I spent Thursday showing them and Oldrik around downtown Fredericton and exploring shops like Chic Geek, Endeavours, etc. Friday the whole was fun and crazy since it was the day before the wedding and all of my and Stu's relatives were landing. We spent the evening over at Stu dad's place where they hosted a barbeque to welcome everyone.

Stu then stayed at his dad's over night and spent his bachelor night have a Dungeon and Dragons night with his brothers, Oldrik and Jon. Mom, Megs, my aunts, grandmother and I spent Saturday getting the reception hall ready before we went to get our hair done and ready.

Then of course we had the wedding which was incredible. My minister's speech was so heart warming and touching she almost had everyone crying. I'm so glad we had her did, she's a close friend of my family so she knew Stu and I really well and the vows fitted Stu and I perfectly.

Then on Sunday, my mom held a family brunch so Stu and I could open our wedding gifts with our family watching. I'm overwhelmed with the gifts we received, hopefully Stu and I will have our own place by next summer.

Tomorrow, Stu and I are off to Disney World, but neither of us are bringing our laptops with us, so we'll be offline for a week.

I do have pictures to show, but to tie you guys over until I get back, here are some awesome shots that Megs took with her camera.

Wedding Week So Far

May. 17th, 2012 | 07:07 pm
mood: bouncybouncy

For those wondering, here's an update. It's been a great week so far. Stu and I have been having a blast showing Oldrik, Megs and Mike around Fredericton. We took them to our favorite shops around town and then went to have dinner at Issac's Way.

A neat thing happened at Strange Adventures, the local comic book shop. We found a copy of Women Anthology and Megs mentioned that she was one of the writers for one of the comics in it. The owner asked Megs if she could sign a copy for them. XD It was rather cool. The owner also seemed interested to check out Namesake too. It was fun.

Tomorrow night, there's going to be a barbeque at Stu dad's place where all of our relatives are going to meet and mingle and then the next day is the wedding. And don't worry, I promise plenty of pictures will be taken.

It Starts...

mood: excitedexcited

Well, it's starting.

We had the wedding rehearsal and it went really well. Our wedding party is really small, and everyone lives locally so it was easy to gather everyone up for it. I think the best part was when Stu's dad was skipping to Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, the song that's going to play when Stu and I leave the church as husband and wife.

We're also throwing a dinner for my cousin boyfriend's graduation, so that should be fun.

Stu's long time friend Oldrik will be landing tomorrow night and then [personal profile] dqbunny and [personal profile] gigabahamut666 land on Wednesday. Currently plan is to take them on a tour of downtown on the Thursday and go out to dinner with our friend Jon, but we'll wait and see how that goes.

Also, I just learned that not only will there be Brave merchandise at Disney World, but there is currently a Merida character at Epcot too when Stu and I go.

I'm SO hunting down a Merida plushie. ^_^

Two Weeks To Go...PANIC!!

May. 8th, 2012 | 05:40 pm
mood: busybusy

I can't believe that Stu and I just have a couple of weeks till the wedding. @_@ We just got about everything done. Stu and I are slowly packing things for Disney World and we're busy cleaning the house from top to bottom. We've painted rooms that haven't been painted in years.

I also spent the afternoon baking cookies to have around for guest and the brunch my mom is throwing the day after the wedding. This will just be the party that never stops.

Stu and I also need to practice dancing for our first dance. We picked "Can You Feel The Love Tonight." We figured with the Disney World trip as our honeymoon, it was fitting.

Stu and I are planning to see The Avengers tomorrow. From what I heard, it sounds awesome and one of the best movies of the year so far. I can't wait to see it.

Wizard of OZ Play

May. 5th, 2012 | 10:12 am

Last night, Stu and I went to a Wizard of OZ play and the actors did a good job.

The play was basically a stage version of the MGM movie so it was a musical production. I forgot how LONG the Munchin song at the beginning was and I've come to realize that King of the Forest song and scene really has no point. Someday, I would love to see a stage version of the original novel. There's suppose to be a dozen stage versions of the novels that were done before the movie came out.

With that said, this version did include a couple of things from the original novel. Th biggest thing was that it included the Tinman's backstory. For those who don't know, his axe got enchanted and he kept getting his body parts replaced by pieces of tin. So, got to admit that was surprising. Also, the actor that played the lion stole the whole.

They did add a line for her.

Lion: My father took me up a high cliff and said everything I saw would be mine...I WAS TERRIFIED!
Dorothy: Why?
Lion: I HATE HEIGHTS!

The Wicked Witch was given a couple of new lines too.

Witch: Is that my sister?! *gasp* Of course it is! Only SHE would dare to wear strip socks with Ruby slippers.

That had me chuckling for a minute there. They also had gotten a real dog to play Toto, she was so cute. They just had her appear in the beginning then just pretend she was in Dorothy's basket until she actually reappeared for the ending bit of revealing the Wizard. I get that because the dog kept looking like she wanted off the stage. She was really cute.

All in all it was a good production, although Stu and I did have a chat after the play.

Stu: If you were Dorothy and you suddenly found yourself in a magical land where your house and suddenly killed a witch, what would you have done differently?
Me: *thinks* Ask questions.

Seriously, to me, the Dorothy in the movie at least, should have asked "What do the ruby slippers do exactly? How do I use them? What happens if I don't follow the yellow brick road? Does the Wicked Witch have a weakness? Why the *beep* didn't you just send me home in the first place Glinda?! And no I don't buy the 'You wouldn't believe me story'!"

Yeah, Stu and I are on the theory that Glinda was the mastermind before the whole thing. Either that, or Glinda was just too lazy to send Dorothy home. XP

I have written my first The Legend of Korra drabble. The idea just sprang to me the other day and it wouldn't leave me until I wrote it.

Title: What's In A Name
Series: The Legend of Korra
Rating: G
Characters: Mako, Bolin and Pabu.
Summary: Takes place before the series starts. Mako comes home only to discover that Bolin has found a new family member.

Mako gripped the pile of forms tightly to his chest as he rounded the corner to home )

Apparently, Stu says he now ships Pabu with Mako's scarf now. XD

100 Things Blogging Challenge #2 The Legend of Calamity Jane

100 Things Blogging Challenge #2 The Legend of Calamity Jane

At some point I want to do a review on The Legend Of Korra. It's so great that we got an animated action series with a female lead. However, there was another animated female lead action series which I feel does not get the recognition it greatly deserves. That series is The Legend of Calamity Jane.

The series follows the adventures of the famous wild west legend Calamity Jane. Now, first off this is not a historically accurate show of her life, but it more or less follows the myth and tall tales of her. Never heard of it? Don't be surprise. This show only had one season of 13 episodes, but they were glorious.

Funny enough, the WB network went to a lot of trouble advertising the series (I remember seeing an ad for it in the old Disney Adventures magazine), but they ended up only airing three episodes before they cancelled. They never gave a clear reason why, but a lot of people think it was due to the violence, guns and other issues in the show.

However, since I lived in Canada where the censorship apparently doesn't as much about that in children's cartoons (seriously just look at Reboot season three), I got to watch the whole series on teletoon. (For those wondering teletoon is the Canadian equivalent to Cartoon Network.)

This cartoon was certainly gritty and it did explore a lot of adult themes (racism, sexism, violence, etc) but the stories never felt it went over the heads of the kids who watched it. There was no big overall plot in the show, but it didn't really need it.

Then we have the characters which what made the show really great especially Calamity Jane. I remember reading on a website that describe her personal rule of "Using her fists first, her whip second and her gun as her last option" which pretty much describes her personality.

Calamity Jane was a great female character. She can easily hold herself in a fight, but most of the time wouldn't just rush into a situation without knowing all the facts. She was a follower justice but didn't believe in killing a person for it. She felt like a super hero that you read about in comics. Seriously, I think this would be a hero Korra would be idolizing if they ever met.

The other interesting fact about this show was that she did not have your normal sidekick either. Most shows like this would often give a young perky side kick like Gabrielle in Xena, but instead we got Joe. An old man who complains how Jane always drag him everywhere. He provides a lot of comic relief in the show, but he's a good character himself and you can tell he and Jane have a close friendship.

The other characters in the show such as Wild Bill Hickock, Captain O'Rourke, and Chena Jane's blood/adoptive brother and the others were also entertaining to watch. Each character was vastly different from the others and half the fun was seeing all of the different relationships Jane had with them.

Overall, it was a really good show and it had gained a fanbase, however, it sadly never got a second season which is a real shame because they could have easily gained a whole franchise with this series.

No DVD set that I know of has been released. However, it has been uploaded to youtube and here is the first episode to help show how awesome this series was.

Back From The States

Apr. 25th, 2012 | 10:00 pm
mood: cheerfulcheerful

I'm back from shopping in the states! My main goal was finding a couple of dresses to wear for the party the night before the wedding and for the Sunday brunch my mother is throwing the day after the wedding. And I found them, for an awesome price. This was a double treat because this meant I had enough in my budget to buy Jellyfish Princess DVD set. I've been dying to get it for ages, but I made getting my dresses the priority.

I also found a king size quilt for $30 and some cute and comfy shoes to wear for the wedding. It's three weeks away! I can't believe!

In fandom news, there's going to be a new Super Best Friends Forever short this weekend.

Laura Faust linked an article about it here HERE

It's about Supergirl and looks like Superman guest stars too. Can't wait!
